Credit Cards vs. Debit Cards
Using either a credit card or a debit card is a convenient way to make purchases, pay bills and more. And SCU offers both!
When you use a credit card, you’re borrowing the amount you spend, and you’ll pay it back at a later time. Using a credit card is a great way to build credit, and it can often get you other great benefits, like earning points on certain everyday purchases.
Making payments with a debit card deducts the funds directly from your checking account once a purchase has been made. While it doesn’t contribute to building credit, debit cards help you avoid accumulating debt, and you won’t have to worry about billing cycles.
Why get a credit card through a credit union?
There’s a lot of things that set credit unions apart from banks. When it comes to credit cards, credit unions provide more personal levels of customer service and are able to charge lower interest rates and fees. Why is that? We believe that our members’ money should stay with our members. We don’t use interest rates to make a profit, like banks do.
